Scholarships

Montana University System Honor Scholarship

Available to a Montana high school senior with a cumulative GPS of at least 3.4 at the end of the 7th semester. Must meet the Rigorous Core Requirements by graduation. Must take the ACT or SAT by December 31, 2016, must be a U.S. citizen and Montana resident, and must be accepted by an eligible campus.

Amount: Waves tuition at an eligible campus: average $4,000 renewable each year.  Opens: December 1, 2017 Due Date: March 15, 2018

Montana Coaches Association

Applicants must list school activities, have lettered in at least 2 varsity sports- one of those lettered sports must have been in the applicant's senior year. Attach a senior transcript; must include first semester grades

Applicants must have a 2.0 or higher GPA, must be a member of the Montana Junior Angus Association, and must be part of an immediate family within the Midland Empire Angus Association.

Cowboy Christmas Ball Scholarship Applicaiton

Applicants must be a graduate of SGHS, has completed or is completing one-third of the requirements toward an undergraduate or graduate degree, diploma or certificate at an accrediated college, university, or business or vocational school. Class of 2018 cannot apply.

Montana Sheriffs & Peace Officer Association

The Montana Sheriff's and Peace Officer Association will award two $750 scholarships to a graduating high school senior who is seeking a career in local law enforcement. Must have a high school GPA of at leas 2.5 and preferably plans to be enrolled as a full-time student in a Montana based college or university that offers ad minimum AA degree in the Criminal Justice Field.

Montana Food Distributors Association

Applicants must be a high school senior or college freshman, sophomore or junior who deserve a Montana Food Distributors Association (MFDA) Scholarship. Nominees should be associated with the Food Industry through either employment or family relationship within the industry.

Foundation for Rural Services Scholarship

The Foundation for Rural Services Scholarship application is a 2 part process and both parts must be postmarked before March 1st and mailed directly to FRS.  The scholarship requires the student to include an Endorsement from Triangle Communications and the completed application.  The Endorsement request from Triangle Communications must be requested by February 15th to allow time for the request to be processed and mailed back to the student to be included with actual application. 

Amount: Multiple Scholarships

Deadline: February 15, 2018 for the Endorsement and March 15, 2018 for entire application.

Midland Empire Chapter of Credit Unions

Applicants must be a member of a Credit Union within the Midland Empire Chapter fields of membership.

Amount: $1,000

Sweet Grass County Farm Bureau Scholarship

Applicants or your parent or legal guardian must be a current Farm Bureau Federation member and remain such while the scholarship is in force. Scholarship payments will not be made to online trade schools, colleges or universities. Applicants are encouraged to fill out the MFBF Women’s Leadership Committee Scholarship as well to have the opportunity for an additional scholarship from MFB. (Need not be a female to apply!)

Crazy Mountain Stockgrowers Association Scholarship

The Crazy Mountain Stockgrowers Association is working to preserve our agricultural way of life.  In that, they strongly support youth and education that will continue to grow future leaders in the ranching community.  The Crazy Mountain Stockgrowers will offer up to $5,000 in college scholarships to Sweet Grass County students this year.  Applicants may be 2018 SGHS graduates, or past graduates currently enrolled in college.  This money may be distributed up to three individuals, or awarded to one or two very worth candidates.

2018 Bernard Greufe Honor Scholarship

The $1,500 Bernard Greufe Honor Scholarship is administered by the Montana Farm Bureau Foundation. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist Montana Farm Bureau members and children of members pursue a higher education. This scholarship is open to 2018 graduates and students currently in college. Applicant must be pursuing degree from an accredited institute of higher education.

Sweet Grass County 4-H Scholarship

Applicant must be enrolled for at least 6 consecutive years including your senior year in high school, and must be a member of the Sweet Grass County 4-H program. Must turn in a COMPLETED record book by September 20th before award will be issued, attached a letter from the County Extension Office verifying the number of years in the 4-H program. Open to current high school seniors.

Amount: $250

These scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors or previous graduates of Sweet Grass County High School in Big Timber, Montana.  Students must be affiliated with the UCC First Congregational Church in Big Timber.

A  scholarship will be awarded to a student with a rural background, preferably living on a ranch, with a G.P.A. of at least 2.75.  Must show some indication of need.

Masonic Doric Lodge Scholarship

Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to Sweet Grass County Students. One scholarship will be awarded to a 2018 SGHS graduate and one scholarship will be awarded to a past SGHS graduate currently enrolled in college. Awards are limited to undergraduate study in any accredited public university, junior college or technical school.  A copy of the Student Aid Report provided by the U.S. Department of Education is required.

One or more scholarships of $500 to $1,000 may be awarded to members of the senior class of SGHS planning to continue their education at a college or vocational/technical school.  Applicants must have attended the Melville School a minimum of three years and must have maintained not less than a “B” average during high school. Republic Services Scholarship

Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to a member of the graduating seniors of Sweet Grass County High School who has demonstrated potential for success in post-secondary education and has been accepted to a 4-year college or university or a 2-year vocational/technical school. The scholarship is open to all students, but those pursuing education in environmental sciences, engineering or vocational training such as welding, mechanics and driving may receive preference in the selection process.

Hearts & Hands Hospice and Pioneer Medical Center are pleased to announce plans to present a $1000.00 scholarship to a student planning to enter the health-care field. Students must plan to declare a major in the health-care field (or have already done so); Must have an overall 2.5 GPA, based on a 4.0 Scale. Must be a graduating high school senior or a student currently enrolled in a junior college, 4 year college or university; Must have demonstrated scholarship, leadership, and outstanding performance.

The Big Timber FFA Alumni is providing scholarships to deserving high school graduating seniors who are Big Timber FFA members interested in or intending to pursue post-high school course of study at either college/university or other post-secondary education institutions.  Applicant must be a Big Timber FFA member; must be a graduating high school senior; must demonstrate leadership growth & potential as well as community involvement within the FFA Chapter and the community at large.

The three law firms in Big Timber (Dringman, Josephson, and Lippert Law Firms) are offering one $1,500 scholarship. Available to SGHS high school seniors, SGHS graduates enrolled in college, and SGHS graduates enrolled in graduate school or professional programs. Student must have a minimum of 3.4 GPA, demonstrate civic engagement, and majoring in the fields of social sciences or humanities including, but not limited to: sociology, psychology, economics, political science, law, criminal justice, languages, journalism and education.
