Course Description:

Students will gain knowledge in career opportunities in the Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation Industries. Areas of study will focus on the Food Service Industry: food and beverages, coffee/kiosk, caterer, hotel food services, purchasing and receiving, food safety and sanitation, wait staff, and roles of food preparation. Career exploration in areas of Lodging: Bed and Breakfast, Guest ranches, Full-Service Hotels, Concierge service, Resorts, housekeeping and guest services, Travel and Travel Guide, Theme Park Manager and Event planner. Business basics will be analyzed in reference to record keeping, advertising, marketing, payroll, insurance, building codes and licenses. Students will design a small business/portfolio in reference to a career within the field of Hospitality, Tourism, Food, Lodging, Travel and or Recreation. The class setting will consist of guest speakers, field trips, movie clips, job shadowing, financial literacy, project based presentations and some food preparation.
