Although this class is an English course, the literature and discussions are often historical in nature. Native American culture will be examined through literature and research projects. We question what is the “frontier”? As well as examining the “myth of the West”.Students will become familiar with Montana literature and its various stylistic features. Themes, literary devices, character development and historical context will be examined. Class discussion and focused writing exercises will cultivate the critical, analytical and evaluative literacy skills that students develop during their English studies at SGHS.
