Course Description:

This course promotes healthy eating, physical activity and a wide variety of topics, including cultural diversity, food customs, food technology, nutrition for athletes and people on the go and basic food preparation skills. This is a fun and exciting hands-on atmosphere where students will prepare various food items and gain basic culinary skills for preparing and serving food.  The student will learn how to choose, purchase, prepare and eat healthy foods at home and on the run. The class will focus on nutrients/ guidelines from MyPlate, food technology, knife skills, safety and sanitation (ServSafe), basic food and culinary preparation, meal planning, costs and careers.  The opportunity to eat is available in this class every week. The learning couldn’t be more fun!

 

Note: This program of study has been approved as a Montana Career Pathway with approval from the University of Montana- College of Technology, Culinary Arts Program.
